Sunday School & Core Knowledge Goals

Sunday School Classes meet in the Children's Building.   Each grade PreK2 - 3rd Grade, has a Sunday School class and two trained, dedicated volunteer teachers leading them each week.  4th & 5th Graders meet in G.R.A.C.E. Place for fellowship followed by a large group teaching, then divide into small groups where they explore applying their faith to current events.  

Infants – 24 months

  • Experience through care that God is love and that He loves them
  • Prayer over each child at each visit

PreK 2's

  • Sing "Jesus Loves Me"
  • Participate w/folded hands in prayer time

PreK 3's

  • Know that Jesus is God's son and that the Bible is God's word – John 20:31
  • Know that the name of our church is Southside United Methodist Church

PreK 4's

  • The Gloria Patri (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen)
  • Understand that God is our Heavenly Father
  • Memorize Psalm 118:24 "This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Kindergarten

  • The Lord's Prayer
  • The Doxology (Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen)
  • 7 Days of Creation

First Grade

  • "The Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control ..." Galatians 5:22-26
  • Know that the Four Gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
  • John 3:16 – memorize and understand

Second Grade

  • The Apostles Creed
  • The 10 Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17)
  • Review the Trinity

Third Grade

  • Receive a Third Grade Bible
  • The Books of the Bible and Major divisions of the Old Testament and New Testament. Learn Historical Settings/Locations/Geography of the Bible.
  • Attend complete hour of Church Worship with parents 1st Sunday of Each Month
  • Review and Compare of a worship service

Fourth Grade

  • The 23rd Psalm
  • Names of the 12 Disciples
  • Review Spiritual Gifts and complete a Spiritual Gifts Assessment
  • Organize and Participate in Service/Outreach Projects
  • Attend Church Worship with parents each Sunday
  • May complete Children's Church Volunteer Training and Assist with Children's Church for one Sunday each month

Fifth Grade

  • Know two sacraments: Communion and Baptism
  • Learn the Beatitudes: Matthew 51-12
  • Discuss and Understand God's Grace
  • Organize and Participate in Service/Outreach Projects
  • Attend Church Worship with parents each Sunday
  • May complete Children's Church Volunteer Training and Assist with Children's Church for one Sunday each month
