Praying for Your Child's Salvation

Taken from Dr. Kevin Meador at Prayer Closet Ministries.com

Praying For Your Child's Salvation

Your child is going to live eternally. He or she will face God in judgment and will spend an eternity in heaven or hell. The greatest need that your child has in this life is to enter into a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. You must strive with all your might to teach your child the truth, to expose him or her to the gospel, and to live a Christian testimony before him or her. These are important steps that you need to take to lead your child to Jesus Christ. Yet, the crucial step in leading your child to Jesus Christ is to pray for him or her. You must plead with God to save your child.

The following are some suggestions on how to pray for your child's salvation. These are suggestions that you can use or you can develop your own from these. The key issue is to pray for your child's salvation on a consistent basis.

  • Ask God to convict your child of his or her sin. Plead with Him to show your child that he or she is a sinner (Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:10-18, 23).
  • Pray that your child will understand who Jesus Christ is (John 1:1, 14; Luke 19:10; Matthew 1:21).
  • Plead that the Holy Spirit will powerfully draw your child to Jesus Christ (John 6:44).
  • Pray that the Holy Spirit will create faith and repentance in your child (John 3:15-16, 5:24; Luke 13:1-3; Acts 17:30-31).
  • Ask God to remove any obstacles that might hinder your child from surrendering to Jesus Christ (Mark 9:43-48).
  • Pray that God would give you the wisdom and insight to share the gospel with your child (Romans 10:11-15).
  •  Ask God to give you the power and strength to live a godly Christian life before your child (Matthew 5:13-16).
