Contemporary Worship Team

Thanks for visiting the Southside UMC Contemporary Worship page!

Our mission is: to lead the SUMC congregation in a contemporary worship experience of Jesus Christ that is authentic, passionate, and excellent.

To this end, we sing choruses by current worship artists like Chris Tomlin, Hillsong, Paul Baloche, and Vineyard, while also staying anchored to our rich Christian musical heritage passed onto us through the timeless hymns of great composers such as Charles Wesley and Isaac Watts. We also incorporate liturgy, Scripture reading, and prayer in our worship services. We desire to move forward in the creative ways in which the Holy Spirit is moving in the Church today, while at the same time remaining solidly and firmly grounded by His Word and the rich musical/doctrinal heritage of the Christian faith passed down to us.

Please check back with us soon, as we'll adding some pictures and streaming audio/video to give you a better idea of what this ministry is about!

If you are interested in using your talent on the contemporary worship team, there are three basic requirements:

  1. be a follower of Jesus Christ, as evidenced by a basic lifestyle of integrity;
  2. demonstrate an attitude that fosters unity and peace in our worship services, rehearsals, and other meetings; and
  3. have a basic musical ability to sing or play an instrument. For singers, this means basically being able to hold a mostly consistent pitch. For an instrumentalist, this means playing at the minimum skill-level required for our worship experience, i.e.- read basic chord charts.

All potential team members must go through an informal audtion and attend at least two rehearsals before singing/playing on Sunday.

If you are interested in joining the contemporary team, please contact me g.johns@southsidemethodist.org or (904) 376-2676 Ext. 114.

Blessings,
Gigi Johns
