Current 2012 Spring & Summer Calendar Highlights
Friday, Feb 10th, 5:30pm-8:30 PM - Sock Hop / Parent's Night Out Sign-Up - 1st-5th Grade: SOCK HOP Party, PreK-K: Pajama Party, Nursery: Available for Infants, Toddlers & 2's. Food, games and prizes for the best 50's costume! The cost of the event is $10/child max of $25/family - Bargain! If your child invites a guest, the guest is only $5. The proceeds from this evening will go to Adam Paulraj (www.babyadamsjourney.com). Please make plans to attend and spread the word to your neighbors, friends and family!
Wed, Feb 22nd, 6:00pm: Ash Wednesday Family Service - Make this special and sacred beginning to Lent a family tradition. Experience with your children an awesome and humbling start to this season of sacrifice, reflection, and spiritual renewal.
Wednesdays during Lent (starting 2/29), 4:30pm-5:30pm: Small Group Studies for 2nd-4th Graders Sign-Up - What is a small group study? How does it help you grow & stretch in your faith to learn with peers? What is accountability? Come to this "Starter Study" for a sneak peek at what Small Groups are all about.
Wednesday, March 28th at 2:30pm: Easter Party at the Sanctuary on 8th Street - SUMC Children and their parents will share the Good News of Easter with boys and girls at The Sanctuary. This after school program targets at risk kids in need striving to make a better future for themselves by being good citizens and dedicated students. Make some new friends & help them celebrate Easter by joining us to throw a party during this special season! Contact Tina Joel for more information.
Sunday, April 1st, 12:00noon: Egg Hunt & Picnic on the Point - We'll bring the fried chicken, drinks & paper products; you bring a side dish or dessert. Don't forget your blankets and lawn chairs - and most importantly - a basket for all the Easter Eggs you will find!
Friday, April 6, 10:30am: Good Friday Hands On Experience - Help your children really learn about "the reason for the Easter Season" with this interactive and intriguing look at Christ's path to the Cross. Bring a blanket & picnic lunch to enjoy in the Garden following.
Wednesday, April 11th:: Spring Surprise for Local Nursing Home - As Spring fills the air, join us to bring smiles and a sunny afternoon to residents of a nearby Assisted Living facility. We will bring small gifts and the gift of smiles, song, conversation and love to the elderly. Contact Tina Joel for more information.
- Training: The Team will meet each Sundays, 2pm-3pm (April 1st, 15th & 22nd) to get kids fired up, confident & comfortable with RUN, BIKE, SWIM & TRANSITION portions of the Triathlon. Cheer Squad will make posters, noisemakers, decorations, pre-race treats for athletes and have fun cheering their friends & siblings.
- PreRace Pasta Party & Worship: Join us Saturday, April 28th for the SUMC PreRace Worship Rally (Sanctuary) & Pasta Party in the FLC.
- Race Day: Sunday, April 29th Meet up for a Pre-Race Pep, help with bicycle drop off & to get started putting all that training into practice!
June 25th-29th: SUMC Vacation Bible School 2012 - Join us for an awesome adventure to some of the AMAZING WONDERS of the World. Along the way we will learn about the awesomeness of God's love for us all! Parents, Sign-ups open in March but contact Peyton Suvoski at psuvoski@yahoo.com (VBS Chair) or Jennifer Sheffield at jennifersheffield@comcast.net (Volunteer Coord.) to find a place to volunteer now! We need all hands on board to take off on this journey! (For the safety and security of everyone, attendance at VBS will be limited and first priority will be for children VBS Volunteers. Ongoing Programs and Classes
If your child(ren) will participate in any of the below activities, please sign them up through our 2011-2012 online registration.
Godly Play
Sundays during 9 AM Worship Services. Children PreK3-4th Graders are dismissed from 9am Worship to enjoy sacred stories and fellowship with their peers. Following 9am Worship, children are escorted to their grade appropriate Sunday School Class. Following 11am Worship, children may be picked up in the Chapel.Sunday School
Sundays at 10 AM. Children PreK3-6th Grade are invited to biblical teaching and fellowship with their grade level. Volunteer teachers provide biblical training with take away information for parents to reinforce at home. Children attending 9am Godly Play will be escorted to their grade level room and all children can be picked up following Sunday School at 10:50am.
Small Group Study
Wednesdays at 4:30 PM. 5th & 6th Graders are invited to Boys' or Girls' Small Group Bible Sundays each Wednesday afternoon. This time of biblical study is complimented with age appropriate application for young learners exploring their beliefs and ready to begin making their faith their own.
Kids in Mission Service Projects
1st or 3rd Wednesday Monthly. Kindergarten through 4th Graders are invited to participate in hands-on service projects that share God's love with others. Projects are designed to let children serve in a direct way impacting others in our church, community, city, country and world. Putting faith into action helps children open their eyes to those in need and lean on their faith to provide for others.
Worship Dance Troupe
Girls age Kindergarten through 6th Grade are invited to use their gifts of dance to worship. Meeting on announced Sundays in preparation for 3 performances in the 2011-2012 year, this opportunity to select music, choreograph a dance, and share it with others in worship helps girls learn how using their talents for God's glory is a wonderful way to serve and honor Him.
Acolyte Ministry
Children in the 3rd-6th Grade are invited to train for Acolyte Service and serve approximately one Sunday each month in the 11:00am Traditional Worship Service.
Nursery
Each Sunday Morning, Wednesday Night and during other church programs and classes, nursery is provided for infants trough PreK2. If another children's program is not offered for older children, child watch will be provided to parents' can attend knowing their children have a safe and loving supervision.
